Reports suggest that Premier League club West Ham United is willing to break its transfer record to secure the signing of Nigerian striker Victor Boniface from Bayer Leverkusen.
Tim Steidten, the technical director of West Ham, is reportedly making significant efforts to bring Boniface to the London Stadium during the January transfer window, as per The Sun.
Competition for the player is fierce, with Chelsea and Newcastle United also expressing interest in acquiring Boniface’s services.
Allegedly, West Ham has lost confidence in their current first-team forwards, Michail Antonio and Danny Ings, and is actively seeking a replacement.
West Ham’s current record signing is Sébastien Haller, for whom they paid €50 million. It is rumored that they are prepared to surpass this figure to secure Boniface’s signature.
Boniface has been a key player for Bayer Leverkusen this season, establishing himself as one of the most prolific strikers in Europe, with 16 goals across all competitions.
However, it’s worth noting that Boniface had to withdraw from participating in the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) due to a groin injury.
